What is Interac Flash?

Mobile Interac Flash

Mobile Interac Flash brings secure, contactless debit transactions to mobile devices through your financial institution's mobile banking applications. Mobile Interac Flash builds on the existing functionality and security of Interac Flash contactless debit technology. It offers strong consumer protections such as transaction limits, passcode verification and zero customer liability. This means that Canadians, regardless of their mobile network, will be able to choose to use Interac Flash on their mobile devices as long as their financial institution supports mobile Interac Flash, their device hardware (e.g., NFC) supports it, and the mobile payment wallet application supports mobileInterac Flash.

Currently, both Scotiabank and RBC offer mobile Interac Flash as part of their mobile wallets. Also coming this spring, mobile Interac Flash will be available in Mobile Pay, a new service offered by Canada’s Credit Unions.

What financial institutions offer Interac Flash?

If you bank with the following financial institutions, you have Interac Flash contactless technology already featured on your Interac debit card.

How do I use Interac Flash?

Here's how to make an Interac Flash transaction using the contactless feature on your Interac debit card:

  1.

Look for the contactless contactless symbol* on your Interac debit card. This means your debit card can use Interac Flash contactless debit technology.

  2.

When making a purchase in-store for less than $100, look for the Interac Flash logo on contactless terminals at check out.

  3.

When the terminal prompts you for payment, hold your card in front of the terminal.

  4.

Wait for the beep and/or “approved” message on the terminal. This means your transaction is complete and your purchase was automatically debited from your bank account.
