Interac Verified is a suite of four products that help securely verify identities and streamline digital transactions — Interac® verification service, Interac® document verification service, the Interac Verified™ credential service and Interac® sign-in service. Within the Interac Verified suite, we’ve incorporated trusted global security standards designed to help consumers feel secure at every step of the verification process. For example:

Interac Debit provides Canadian businesses and consumers with a safe, reliable and convenient way to pay — at nearly half a million Canadian stores, restaurants, online shops and other businesses.

The Interac Zero-Liability Policy 

If a consumer believes fraud has occurred on their Interac Debit card, their bank or credit union will reimburse them for any losses experienced due to unauthorized transactions, subject to terms and conditions of their participating financial institution. EMV technology 

The EMV chip embedded in an Interac Debit card protects transactions by ensuring that only encrypted (scrambled) data is shared during payment. It also provides protection against card counterfeiting.

Transaction limits

For consumer protection, the Interac Debit platform utilizes transaction limits — daily, cumulative, and per-transaction limits. These reset when a PIN is entered at a terminal, or on the next business day, depending on the bank’s policies and the type of limit. This helps ensure the account holder is the only person using the account.

Interac is proud to offer Canadians one of the world’s most secure money transfer services. When money is sent using Interac e-Transfer, the funds do not actually travel by email or text message — only the notifications and deposit instructions do.

Interac offers the same level of security Canadians expect from a bank or financial institution. And not only is every transaction encrypted, but Interac works around the clock to help financial institutions and partners monitor and flag patterns of fraud.

Two-step authentication

To receive funds via Interac e-Transfer if they don’t have the Autodeposit feature enabled, users first need to sign into their online banking with their username and password, Touch ID or Face ID (that’s Step One). Then they’re prompted to answer a security question that only they and the sender know (that’s Step Two).***

Yes, Autodeposit is a security feature. Interac e-Transfer Autodeposit gives Canadians the option to pre-authenticate their email address or phone number to a specific bank account. The need for a security question and answer is eliminated, while helping consumers stay protected against online scams.
