Your questions, answered.
Does it cost more to tap on transit with Interac Debit?
You’ll pay the same adult fare as you would with a 90-minute Arc ticket. Just tap your Interac debit card when you board and tap off when you exit. The system calculates your fare based on where you tapped off.
Is it safe to tap on to transit with Interac Debit?
You can feel confident knowing that every payment has the same security backing as any other Interac Debit contactless transaction.
Do I need to tap off on transit?
Yes. To make sure you’re charged the correct fare, you have to tap your Interac debit card on an Arc validator both when boarding and exiting buses and LRT stations. If you forget to tap off, you may be charged the maximum fare for your trip.
How can I prove I paid?
When prompted, simply tap the fare inspector’s device with your Interac debit card and you’re all set. If you paid with your digital wallet, you’ll need to present your Interac debit card in your digital wallet for verification. Rest assured, fare inspectors and the transit agency will not have access to any of your personal or account information during this process. They will only be able to see when your physical or digital card was most recently used.
Make Interac Debit your default to simplify transit taps.
Apple Pay: open your digital wallet app, touch and hold the card, drag it in front of your other cards.
Google Pay: Open the wallet app, swipe through to find your card, tap and hold the card to open the menu to select it as default.

Does Interac Debit work as a transfer on all transit services using Arc?
Yes. When you tap your Interac debit card on an Arc validator on a bus or in an LRT station, your payment is valid for 90 minutes across all transit services using Arc, including buses, LRT, and On Demand Transit. Simply tap your card again each time you board or exit a bus or LRT fare payment zone to get the best fare.
Will fare capping still work if I tap with Interac Debit?
Yes. As long as you use the same debit card or digital wallet each time, you can get the same daily and monthly fare caps as you would with an Arc card.
Which transit agencies are included in the Edmonton region?
Edmonton, St Albert, Strathcona County, Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan, and Spruce Grove.
What if I switch cards or devices mid-trip?
You may be charged again. The physical and digital versions of the same card are considered to be two different payment methods, so avoid extra charges by tapping with the exact same payment method every time.
Will Arc store any of my banking information after I tap my debit card?
No, neither the transit system nor Interac gains access to, or stores, your banking information when you tap your debit card or digital wallet to pay (just like when you pay at a store). When you make a payment, the only data transmitted consists of payment transaction codes, not confidential details about your bank account.
Can I use my physical debit card to make transit payments?
Yes, if you have Interac Debit contactless payments enabled, you can use your physical debit card to pay for your transit fare on all transit agencies using Arc.
Which transit fares can I pay using Interac Debit?
You can pay for your adult transit fare using Interac Debit with just one tap.
What if I want to tap in multiple riders? Can I tap multiple times?
No, the fare reader will not accept multiple taps as an attempt to pay for multiple riders using the same payment method. Each rider will need to use a separate Interac Debit card when paying to board (just as each rider needs their own payment method when using dedicated fare cards). Alternatively, you can purchase Arc tickets with your Interac Debit card at an Arc vending machine, located at many transit centres and LRT stations.
Where can I check my transaction history? How will I recognize an Interac Debit charge for transit on my bank statement?
You can see your Arc transaction history when you log in to myArc.ca. Click My Arc > Transaction History.
