Empowering our teams to focus on success, not location
The pandemic taught us that business results are driven by employees, not location. Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, digital payments grew across all Interac products. In fact, Interac e-Transfer usage reached more than one billion transactions across a 12-month period for the very first time in its 20-year existence. During this time, we also introduced new workplace culture enhancements and forms of flexibility, including daily meeting-free ‘Quiet Hours’ aimed at enabling focused work and balancing work/life responsibilities and extra-long weekends throughout the summer to help our teams recharge. This was further testament to the results our team was able to achieve when they were empowered to drive their own fintech career success.
Driven by choice: Hybrid workplace culture for all
Before making decisions about the future of work for Interac, we went straight to the source by connecting with our employees and leaders to understand what they wanted work to look like in a post-pandemic world. The result was resounding – our teams felt we trusted them to do what they needed to do while working from home, and our leaders confirmed our productivity had increased.
Our Hybrid Model was born from these conversations. It invites employees to work with their leaders and teams to choose the workstyle that allows them to do their best work:
- Resident: Averaging 4+ days in the office each week
- Mobile: Averaging 1-4 days in the office each week
- Remote: Averaging 0-1 day in the office each week
Over the course of the summer, we invited teams to join our Hybrid pilot program, where they transitioned into their chosen fintech career workstyle. As we’d hoped, we saw our teams performing at their best. We celebrated the completion of our Hybrid rollout with end-of-summer BBQs at our offices in Toronto and Ottawa over music, games and a lot of catching up.
