This tip is about gross nets. No, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">we\u2019re not talking about that time we took a tour on the fishing boat. We\u2019re talking about the difference between gross margin and net profit margin.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Knowing just how much you earn and how that stacks up with the costs of running your business is essential to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">maintaining a healthy business<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. And <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">understanding<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> your gross margin and net profit margin is a good way to do that.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On the surface they seem pretty similar, but they offer two different views of profit your business makes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So, what\u2019s the difference?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Gross margin <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">is the money left over from sales after subtracting the expenses directly tied to making and delivering your product. This allows you to see how much revenue you\u2019re making on your product after subtracting the costs of making it.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Net profit margin<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, meanwhile, is the grand total of all the money you\u2019ve earned after subtracting costs related to the business. Stuff like making and delivering the product, paying rent, taxes, and bills.
