COVID-19 has had a lasting impact on all of us, however, marginalized groups and organizations that support those communities are bearing the brunt.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cOntario Nonprofit Network&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/theonn.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ONNs-COVID-19-Flash-Survey-Report-April-6-2020-1_compressed.pdf\"><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">reports<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;that demand for social services has skyrocketed during the pandemic, with over 40% of non-profits seeing an increased demand for their services.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With that in mind, our staff rallied *virtually* and raised over $80,000 for United Way organizations. See below for the key takeaways from the week.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It\u2019s<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;more important than ever to support our community partners<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During Diversity Week, Frances&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Delsol<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;of Black Business Professionals Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CIWianGBDVW\/\">shared that COVID-19 has highlighted inequality<\/a> in news ways and&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">it\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;vital that we all work together to maintain momentum to help our communities. This comes at a time when Ontario Nonprofit Network&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theonn.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ONNs-COVID-19-Flash-Survey-Report-April-6-2020-1_compressed.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">reports&nbsp;<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that 74 per cent of organizations anticipate or are experiencing a reduction in revenues from fundraising activities, while 58 per cent anticipate or have seen a decline in earned income sources.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In order to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;support our communities, particularly those that make up marginalized groups, we must continue to invest time and resources into these organizations to ensure no one is left behind.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5308 size-medium aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.interac.ca\/wp-content\/smush-webp\/2021\/05\/frances-2-284x300.png.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 284px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 284\/300;\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.interac.ca\/wp-content\/smush-webp\/2021\/05\/frances-2-284x300.png.webp 284w, https:\/\/www.interac.ca\/wp-content\/smush-webp\/2021\/05\/frances-2.png.webp 583w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-original-sizes=\"(max-width: 284px) 100vw, 284px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Allyship is critical to effecting change<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Diversity Week taught us that we cannot expect marginalized&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">groups<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;to move their own rights forward. It is up to each of us to become better allies, understand the hardships of others, and work towards a more equitable future. This can be as easy as listening to someone\u2019s experiences and investing what you can in organizations that support a social cause.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Each of us has different life experiences that we can learn from<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{\" 201341983\":0,\"335559740\":276}\"=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Throughout Diversity Week we heard dozens of stories from staff and partners who come from&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">unrepresented<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;communities. They shared their experience growing up as a minority, the injustice&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">they\u2019ve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;faced, and what they\u2019ve learned through those times in their life. One key moment from those discussions came from Hawley Kane, Vice President, Organizational&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Development for Interac subsidiary 2Keys<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;Corporation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. She shared, \u2018Early in my career, I was often the only woman at the table.
