How easy would it be for someone to hack your favourite go-to password?<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a trick question: You shouldn\u2019t have <\/em>a go-to password that you recycle across lots of different digital products and services. Instead, you should try to come up with a different secret password each time.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s just one of several lessons people should bear in mind as they manage their online security. Here\u2019s another: Using special software that can make billions of guesses per second, hackers can \u201ccrack\u201d most passwords in a matter of hours \u2013 or even faster, if you use a really common password like \u201cpassword1<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c123456<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

A good password isn\u2019t elegant-looking and easy to remember. In fact, \u201cugly\u201d passwords \u2013 ones that contain a variety of characters in unusual combinations \u2013 are harder to guess and crack.<\/p>\n
