(Interac) today announced that Global Payments\u00ae (NYSE: GPN), a leading payment technology and software company that powers commerce for businesses of all sizes worldwide, will enable Konek across its merchant network in Canada. Konek is Canada\u2019s digital wallet, powered by Interac and backed by the country\u2019s leading financial institutions. The integration of Konek with Global Payments will give thousands of Canadian businesses nationwide the opportunity to enable account-based payments, along with card-based payments, for their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are proud to collaborate with Global Payments to scale the availability of Konek to more businesses of all sizes across the country,\u201d said Kris Zanuldin, head of Konek at Interac. \u201cThis enablement of Konek underscores accelerated momentum across Canada\u2019s payments ecosystem as merchants and consumers seek more flexible, secure checkout experiences and access to account-based payment solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Account-based payments from chequing or savings accounts are powered by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.interac.ca\/en\/payments\/personal\/interac-direct\/\">Interac Direct<\/a>\u00ae, available exclusively on Konek.<br><br>Global Payments is rolling out Konek, starting with its API and expanding into built-in online checkout and hosted payment solutions for merchants. Konek is expected to be available to a broad range of Global Payments merchant customers in Canada by fall 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interac research shows nearly half of mobile wallet users in Canada value the convenience of mobile wallet payments (47 per cent). The same study also shows 42 per cent of younger Canadians (Gen Z and Millennials) are increasingly open to paying directly from their bank accounts for online purchases, pointing to a growing interest in pay-by-bank solutions at checkout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCanadian merchants are navigating rising consumer expectations, and checkout has become a real differentiator,\u201d said Chris Baron, general manager and Canada country head at Global Payments. \u201cEnabling Konek gives merchants access to a solution that\u2019s built for how Canadians want to pay. The survey was fielded from December 2 to December 9, 2025, among n=3,039 Canadian consumers aged 15 and older, with results weighted to 2021 Census demographic targets to reflect the broader Canadian population.
