{"id":101118,"date":"2022-09-21T11:41:15","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T11:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/interac1.wpengine.com\/?post_type=content&#038;p=101118"},"modified":"2025-06-02T16:43:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T20:43:33","slug":"interac-mcgill-policy-labs-sponsorship","status":"publish","type":"content","link":"https:\/\/www.interac.ca\/en\/content\/news\/interac-mcgill-policy-labs-sponsorship\/","title":{"rendered":"Interac, McGill\u2019s Policy Lab announce sponsorship to solve real-world public policy challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Interac sponsorship of McGill University\u2019s Max Bell School of Public Policy to support the School\u2019s Policy Lab and MAX Policy essay series<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TORONTO, ON\u200b \u200b\u2013&nbsp;<\/strong>September 21, 2022 \u2013 Interac Corp., one of Canada\u2019s most trusted financial brands, announced today the sponsorship of The Master of Public Policy (MPP) program at McGill University\u2019s Max Bell School of Public Policy. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interac has committed $300,000 to sponsor the program\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/maxbellschool\/programs\/mpp-overview\/mpp-detail\/policy-lab\">Policy Lab<\/a>, which connects teams of students with a private, public, or non-profit organization to solve a real-world policy issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A cornerstone of the MPP program, the Policy Lab provides students with invaluable real-world experience and a unique opportunity to apply the theory and principles of policy design to tackle difficult contemporary policy issues. Students will also gain vital insight into the challenges of implementing change, such as performing thorough analyses with imperfect data, trade-offs between stakeholders\u2019 interests, the challenges posed by a partisan political landscape, and communicating complex policy ideas effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInterac has generously chosen to sponsor some of our Policy Labs, the key experiential part of our MPP program,\u201d said Chris Ragan, Director of the Max Bell School of Public Policy. \u201cThe sponsorship by Interac will help our students achieve their training in a policy-rich environment and help the School achieve its outreach objectives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interac will sponsor six Policy Lab challenges over three years, each of which will be addressed by a team of students over a six-month period, culminating in a presentation and final report to stakeholders. As a sponsor, Interac will work with the Policy Lab to co-develop three policy challenges (one per year) affecting the financial industry \u2013 for example, open banking; digital verification and authentication; blockchain; fintech; cybersecurity and resiliency; the power of data; economic resiliency; social entrepreneurship and digital innovation; or the future of retail \u2013 and provide critical insight and feedback to students throughout the policy challenges. The remaining three challenges sponsored by Interac will be co-developed with one or more non-profit organizations selected by the School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt Interac, we see a tremendous synergy in supporting education and the development of upcoming leaders in Canada,\u201d said Kirkland Morris, Vice President of Enterprise Initiatives and External Affairs at Interac Corp. \u201cFor a national network like Interac, good public policy is core to our collective future.
