Accessibility Statement and Multi-Year Plan

Statement of Commitment

As one team, we are committed to building an equitable, accessible, and prosperous community for all Canadians.  We prioritize employee and, where appropriate, stakeholder led insights to guide meaningful and measurable action that is values aligned, sustainable, and outcome based.  

We are committed to ensuring compliance with the accessibility requirements contained in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) by:

  • identifying and removing barriers to accessibility;
  • providing equal opportunities to access our products and services;
  • creating accommodations to employees with disabilities;
  • enabling equitable opportunities for career advancement;
  • providing information to persons with disabilities in an accessible format; and
  • meeting these commitments in a timely manner.

Our Approach to Accessibility

Training

We provide mandatory accessibility training to new employees and contract workers when they join the organization as well as recurring annual training for existing employees and contract workers. This training:

  • covers the requirements of the AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code as it relates to persons with disabilities;
  • informs employees, both new and existing, of the opportunities and accommodations available to persons with disabilities; and
  • is tracked for completion across the organization.

Information and Communications

We ensure that its published content is accessible to persons with disabilities and meets the requirements of the AODA through:

  • a feedback process to receive and respond to feedback from persons with disabilities; and
  • a process to provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats of published content to persons with disabilities in a timely manner.

Accessible Websites and Web Content

We collaborate with Level Access, adigital accessibility solutions provider, to ensure our internet websites and web content conform, where applicable, with the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”) 2.0 Level AA. Our practices apply to:

  • new web content that is developed using industry best practices and is independently assessed for conformance; and
  • existing web content that undergoes periodic review to ensure ongoing conformance.

Employment

We are committed to being an employer of choice in Ontario by creating a workplace that prevents and removes barriers to accessibility. To achieve this commitment and comply with the requirements of the AODA we:

  • advise applicants during the recruitment process of the availability, upon request, of accommodation for persons with disabilities;
  • advise applicants when making offers of employment of our policies for accommodating persons with disabilities;
  • inform current and new employees, as soon as practicable, of our Accessibility Policy;
  • provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports, upon request, necessary for persons with disabilities to perform their job;
  • provide individualized workplace emergency response information to persons with disabilities;
  • develop and document individual accommodation plans, provided that we are aware of the need for such accommodation;
  • develop and document a return to work process for employees who have been absent from work due to a disability;
  • develop a process to factor the accessibility needs of an employee, including any applicable individual accommodation plans, when conducting performance reviews; and
  • factor in an employee’s accessibility needs, including any applicable individual accommodation plans, when redeploying employees with disabilities.

Our Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

Champion Accessibility & Best Practices

We have established a dedicated accessibility oversight function to work closely with our Diversity & Inclusion office to ensure that we are meeting our accessibility obligations and targets as well as to identify further opportunities to remove barriers both internally and with our stakeholders. We will also continue to collaborate with Level Access to embed accessibility best practices throughout our organization.

Engage, Enable, and Empower

We continue to prioritize employee and, where appropriate, stakeholder led insights to guide meaningful and measurable action that is values aligned, sustainable, and outcome based.  

Activate Accessibility Awareness and Knowledge

In addition to our existing robust training program, we will develop targeted accessibility learning sessions tailored to specific product and focus areas.

Monitor, Report, and Continuously Improve

We have implemented a continuous improvement program in support of our commitment to remove barriers. Our accessibility oversight function and Diversity & Inclusion office will closely collaborate to drive ongoing enhancements to our accessibility program by leveraging employee and, where appropriate, stakeholder insights as well as industry best practices.
