Who is Interac Association's membership made up of?

Interac Association is made up of a diverse group of members, including banks, trust companies, credit unions, caisse populaire, payment processors, terminal deployers and merchants.

What is included as part of my membership?

As a member you have the ability to participate directly with Interac services, and to provide input to certain Association decisions. You are given access to a "members only" extranet where a variety of information is housed for your needs. In addition, you will receive Interac education materials as well as marketing collateral materials.

What does Interac Association do?

Interac Association is the organization responsible for the business and operations of the national Interac network.

  • Maintaining the systems that link members together in order to deliver Interac Shared Services to Canadians
  • Setting and enforcing the rules governing transactions routed over the Inter-Member Network
  • Providing common marketing support for its members
  • Providing common security services for its members

Who is responsible for maintenance of the network?

Both the Association and members are involved in maintenance of the network. The members maintain their systems that enable the network to operate; Interac Association maintains the equipment that links the members' systems together. One of the Association's main responsibilities is to manage interconnectivity, e.g. ensure reliable operation 24/7 and facilitate information sharing during outages to expedite recovery; we also work with technology companies to upgrade the network as required.
