Security
Your security always comes first
Interac Association and its members are proud to be recognized as leaders in terms of payment card security. We continue to work with top security experts to maintain an industry leading level of security for Interac services.
How Interac security works with you
- Your security starts with your Personal Identification Number (PIN).
- Your debit card has two layers of security — the debit card itself and your PIN — both are required to complete an Automated Banking Machine (ABM) withdrawal or Point-of-Sale (POS) transaction.
- When you enter your PIN, it's scrambled using encryption technology before it's sent over the Interac network to your financial institution.
- At no time is your PIN ever printed or displayed in any manner.
- No one should ever ask you to reveal your PIN, not even the police or your own financial institution.
- No additional personal information is required when using Interac services, beyond what is already contained on your debit card.
- Merchants and other financial institutions are not given personal information through any of the Interac Association services.
Take further precautions by practicing Debit Card Safety.
